Story behind the song
Conceived c1996. This is Take 1 Mix 9 recorded c1996 Alesis ADAT Musing around on my custom D minor 6 tuning set to a repeating Drum Machine Swing pattern. On the First guitar, (left channel) I'm playing basically a core riff of some really jazzy 6th's, 6/9's, major 7th's, major/MINOR 7th's (!) & other exotic sounding chords down on the fret board Then on the second guitar (right channel) I'm playing up on the fret board, & trying to hit the inversions of what I'm playing on the other guitar (and mostly MISSING!!), and finally laying down what amounts to a 17 minute bass guitar solo!! Includes a transposed short bit of Cheap Trick's "Elo Kiddies" apx. half way through. But it begins to meander into total atonality not too long after this until the last half a minute or so. A few good spots here & there, but a lot of sloppy a*s s**t too! The short section with the syncopated "Octave" chords that precedes the "Elo Kiddies" riff is a nice touch! And THEN..... ......at the OTHER end of the spectrum is the over long discordant power/speed strumming (or is that STRANGLING?) call & response-like section at about 10-11 minutes into the song , where any remaining semblance of pitch or melody is thrown out the window, along with the baby.... .....AND the bathwater!! (Not to mention the f***ing TUB TOO!!) Also here, I'm trying pitifully to do some Slapping & Tremolo picking on the Bass!! (As if I don't punish it ENOUGH already!!!) Eventually about the last 10-30 seconds, I try to get back to the beginning vamp, but then I run out of tape, so it abruptly (and MERCIFULLY!!) ends there!! Of course, I'm about 50 cents shy of concert pitch, & the first 2+ minutes of the Bass Guitar track is dedicated to getting IT in tune with my two "JUST-SHY-OF-CONCERT-PITCH!" guitars!! (Gee, I couldn't tune my Bass to the other guitars BEFORE I hit record, duuuh?) :p Since the time I first recorded this, I added 3 additional guitars (done I think around 2006) 2 being clean harmony leads & 1 distorted lead. Plus in 2016 when I transferred this into DAW, I did a couple more takes of Bass Guitar. This mix, however, is the song in it's original form. The added to version follows.......
